Happy owners

29.06.2024

We are very pleased to have happy owners of Tommelberg-horses all over the place:

First up is Annabelle T, this now 4 year old mare by Andiamo x Q. Breitling LS was sold last year and is taking her first steps in the showring. Annabelle competed in Delft in a young horse category where they were judged on their talent and qualities as a jumper. She was praised for her power and excellent reflexes and took home a 6th place out of 55 competitors.

Next up is Alonso, a 5 year old gelding by Andiamo x Cornet Obolensky. Alonso was also sold as a 3 year old, we lost track of him for a while but can follow his journey together with Jack Webb (NZ) who is riding him for Hendrik Jan Schuttert Sporthorses.

Another recurring horse with happy new owners is Arthur T.  After some great results in Austria last month we got to see Arthur in action during the CSIO of Bratislava. Arthur jumped the CSI*YH going clear and placed in the final !

A horse with a happy owner close to home is 6 year old Clarisse T by Chacfly. Just like all above horses Clarisse was sold as a youngster. Her career started off somewhat different as the new owner decided to first have some foals. Clarisse’s oldest offspring is now 2 year old and also won her first prize in freejumping. Clarisse herself has now started out her career in sport, after having two foals, and she brings a smile to her owner everytime she appears in the ring.

We are very grateful to be able to breed such superstars that perfectly match with the energy of their new owners/riders. For us breeding isn't just the birth of the foals every year, it's also giving those foals the right start, value their strengths and weaknesses and always keep believing in them. For those reasons it give us all the more joy to see them shine later on in their career.

Foalseason 2024 & 2025

14.06.2024

Now that all our foals are born it is time to reflect on this year’s foalseason and already looking ahead to next year. This year we expected 3 foals, colts were in the majority by 2 versus 1 filly.

First born was Bernardus T, a very big and athletic chesnut colt by Naxcel V out of Cela Vita (by Cornet Obolensky). Cela is the mother of several 140/155 horses and we still have some promising youngster of her working their way up.

A few days later it was time for Hermine T to set foot on ground. This charismatic filly is a product of Hardrock Z out of Hamira de Laubry (by Diamant de Semilly). Hamira is the mother of Tommelberg-horses Reginald T (Malitto, CSI*YH), Archie T (Asca, approved Zangersheide) and Thor T (Spitfire, AES approved). We are very happy to have another filly out of Hamira and so being able to coninue to breed out of this succesfull damline.

The last one born was Jefferson T, a true eyecatching colt by Jaguar vd Berghoeve. Jefferson is out of Grabiella, a daughter of Cela Vita by Andiamo, and so a second generation Tommelberg-horse. The oldest offspring of Grabiella is now 4 years old and taking the first steps into showjumping, from what we’ve seen now hopes are high !

While all foals are born it is also time to look forward to next year. Already 2 mares are confirmed: newbie Qaroline V (by Nabab de Reve) is in foal of Mindset ES, a 7 year old stallion by Aganix du Seigneur. Youngster Annelotte T (by Asca out of Hamira de Laubry) is in foal of our own newly approved stallion Romantico (by Grandorado).

We hope to announce more succesfull coverings soon.

Romantico Approved

15.05.2024

Yesterday we headed over to Ermelo for the finals of the stallion performance test. With Romantico we had one stallion participating, our second prospect (Raptor) is moved up to November due to some administration issues.

Over the past weeks we regularly paid a visit tot he trainingcentrum to check up on Romantico and we were pleased with the progress he made. The jury of the stallioncommission shared that opinion and granted Romantico with his approval.

Summary of the Performance Test Report :

Exterior – no remarks

Rideability - Romantico is a nice stallion to ride with a good attitude. He shows ability

on the jump and has a good overview. Romantico has a lot of talent as a jumping horse

and gives his rider a good feeling.

Stablebehaviour - Honest, reliable stallion, easy to handle and quiet in the stable.

Breedingadvice - Romantico can add jumping qualities, especially light-footedness

Read the full report on KWPN.nl  (only available in Dutch!)

Romantico will be available for breeding at Van Olst Horses with a studfee of 800€.

Want to check out Romantico IRL ? On May 24th a stallionshow will be organised at Van Olst Horses, Den Hout. Romantico will showed under the saddle and tackling some jumps.

Summary of the first outdoors

08.05.2024

Although it's been a long wait for springtime to arrive, now it seems the weather is finally starting to turn. Good or bad weather conditions, the (outdoor) shows must go on and so the horses are already fully used to outdoor-season. Lets list some results of current and former Tommelberg-horses:

6YO Arthur T by Andiamo out of Imke S by Q. Breitling LS was sold two years ago when he was 4 year old. He's now at the start of his second outdoor season with his new owner and prooved to be in excellent shape.  Arthur made a trip to Austria to compete in the CSI* YH and returned home with great results. With two clear rounds and two placings we are very curious what the rest of season will hold for him and we are more then impressed with the progress he made during winter.

Another 2018-baby and former field-buddy of Arthur is Sirocco T by Ermitage Kalone out of a Nabab de Reve-mare. Sirocco moved to France as a 3 year old and we can still find him competing there. Sirocco jumped 2 shows in Nancy with some clear rounds and showes to have more then enough scope.

One year older we have Reginald T impressing in the 7YO classes of Lier, Bonheiden and Sentower. Regi is improving show by show and seems to have not a single difficulty with the 130/135 classes. In Bonheiden not a single pole was touched resulting in three clear rounds in a row. The show in Sentower last week started off the same way with two clear rounds in the first days. The hopes were high for the final on Sunday but in the delicate course everything had to be perfect. A small mishap in one of the combinations was immediatly punished with a fault but seeing the way Regi tackeled the course and keeps growing into this level is making us eager for the rest of the season.

Investing in the future

14.03.2024

After we said goodbye to some promising horses in 2023 we can now look forward in 2024 with some new young talent. This talent was found at the KWPN select sale, a part of the KWPN stallion aprovals, and the auctionlot contains stallions who are at least through to the second round of the aprovals.

The first stallion that catched our eye was Romantico AD. This grey stallion is by Grandorado TN out of a Cornet Obolensky mare. Grandorado himself is actif at 160 level under Willem Greve. The mother of Romantico, Madame Cornet RM, is the half-sister of several 150 and 140 horses.

Next up was Raptor ADC that caught our attention. This very impressive dark stallion is by Luigi D’Eclipse, winner of the 155 GP of Maastricht 2023. The mother of Raptor is by world famous Emerald van 't Ruytershof and, same as Romantico, also Raptor’s damline consists several horses ranging from 140 till 155 level.

Both stallions were selected at the last viewing of the stallion selection and therefor qualify to participate at the performance test. Here the stallions will be evaluated on natural sport talent, temperament, rideability and character and this for 35 days in a row.

Both boys are now being prepared on their test by our loyal partners at Protea Stables and beginning of April we will bring them to Ermelo for the kick-off.
